CART Captioning for Graduations/Commencements

A La CARTe has been providing CART services for graduation and commencement ceremonies for many, many years. In recent times, due to the pandemic and globalization of services, we’re busier than ever providing top-notch CART captioning services no matter where our consumer is located.

For graduations and ceremonies, there are some special considerations.

Before the event: Things the Captioner Needs:

  • Audio Access — Phone Line for us to call in or web-based URL.
  • Copy of the Land Acknowledgement, if one will be read.
  • Run of show, agenda, or any other helpful documents.
  • Names of Speakers/Presenters/Hosts/etc.
  • Scripts that the speakers plan to read from.
  • Any slide decks that will be shared with the audience.
  • Lyrics to any songs that may be sung (school fight song, etc.)
  • List of any student speakers (i.e., Valedictorian) and speeches they plan to read.

Captioning Graduation Norms and Protocol:

  • Our normal procedure is to write [Reading of Graduate Names] instead of writing the names out in the captions since they are typically projected on a screen somewhere already. Do you plan to follow this same protocol for your event?
  • Our captions are normally done in Mixed Case – do you prefer all caps?

Please discuss these questions with your team and let A La CARTe know your preferences.

How do you want the captions shared?

  • Captioning URL
  • Do you want your captions integrated into a platform? If so, what platform?

*You will need to be sure that you have enabled captions for the platform you choose to use. If you have any questions about how to do this, please contact office@alcCART.com at least 3 days before your event so we can send over directions and then do a test.

Why are remote CART services a great choice for your organization or university?

There are several reasons why remote services have become increasingly popular and more commonly offered than onsite services in recent years.

First, technological advancements have made it easier for people to work and communicate from anywhere in the world. This has led to the rise of remote work and makes it possible to provide services remotely without sacrificing quality or efficiency.

Second, remote services can be more convenient for both service providers and customers. With remote services, there is no need for travel time and expenses, which can save time and money for everyone involved.

Third, remote services can also be more environmentally friendly as they reduce the need for transportation, resulting in lower carbon emissions.

Finally, remote services also offer greater flexibility and scalability for businesses. Remote services can be easily scaled up or down depending on demand, without the need for additional office space or equipment.

Overall, the shift towards remote services is driven by a combination of technological advancements, convenience, environmental concerns, and business scalability. Scheduling CART services has become much simpler, and once you have familiarized yourself with the right tools and general requirements, it is easy to get the hang of it.
